Foundation Offers Area ScholarshipsThe Harrison County Community Foundation board of directors has announced $150,000 for scholarships for Harrison County high school seniors who graduate this spring.
The foundation, funded primarily with revenue from the Caesars riverboat casino, has provided $80,000 in each of the last three years.
Amounts provided to each school were based on the number of seniors as of January 16, 2001. Lanesville High will get $17,400; South Central, $19,850; Corydon Central $53,600; and North Harrison, $59,150.
Starting this year, the foundation is requiring that at least 10 percent of each school’s total go to students entering certified vocation training. Otherwise, schools determine their own selection policies and the amounts to be awarded.
Seniors also may be eligible to compete for scholarships established by the foundation that are reserved for Harrison County residents through Indiana University Southeast and the University of Louisville. Information is available on the foundation’s web site.
