HCCF Awards Nearly $500,000 in Grants

The Harrison County Community Foundation has awarded $479,926 to various agencies for projects benefiting Harrison County. The successful grant applicants are:
Blue River Services: $16,343 for improvements to the Corydon Ramsey Group Home and the Wyandotte Emergency Youth Shelter; $50,000 for the construction of affordable multi-family rental apartments; and $75,000 to build a maintenance facility and office space for the transportation department;
Center for Lay Ministries: $10,000 to support Harrison County residents staying at The Bliss House;
Comfort House: $22,000 to provide ongoing forensic interviews, exams and education;
Family Health Center of Harrison County: $7,888 to provide staffing for the clinic;
Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services: $5,000 to provide therapeutic massage for Harrison County patients;
Harrison County Alternative Education Center: $2,000 to provide transportation for student community service projects;
Harrison County CASA: $3,765 to purchase furniture and equipment;
Harrison County Community Services: $62,000 to support the Family Home Ownership Opportunity Program;
Harrison Education and Literacy Program: $14,800 to pilot an inmate re-entry program;
Harrison County Fire Chief's Association: $54,000 to provide training and equipment testing to each of the nine Harrison County fire departments;
Harrison County Lifelong Learning: $8,100 to subsidize post-secondary courses through Ivy Tech Community College;
Hoosier Hills PACT: $15,000 to support services for victims of crime in Harrison County;
Hospice & Palliative Care of Southern Indiana: $14,397 to provide funding for the Bereavement Care Program;
Indiana Grantmakers Alliance: $3,000 for youth to attend a Youth Philanthropy Jam;
Lanesville Community School Corp.: $25,000 for elementary school playground renovations; $24,000 to purchase Classroom Performance Systems; $3,200 to purchase health and fitness resources for the school library;
LifeSpan Resources Inc.: $3,058 to purchase scheduling software;
North Harrison Community School Corp.: $25,000 to purchase school bus security cameras; $3,825 to support Camp Kindergarten at Morgan Elementary and North Harrison Elementary; $12,500 to purchase and install school bus storage boxes;
North Harrison High School: $4,000 to paint the band trailers; $2,261 to purchase materials to build plant tables for the greenhouse; $2,750 to purchase security cameras;
North Harrison Middle School: $2,553 to purchase AlphaSmart NEO's for special needs students;
St. Joseph School: $1,760 to purchase a school bus video camera and additional safety equipment;
Town of Palmyra: $2,826 to purchase equipment for the police department; and
YMCA of Harrison County: $3,900 to purchase and install automatic door openers for the facility.
The Community Foundation has provided over $17 million to support not-for-profit projects and scholarships since October 1997.
With contributions from Caesars Indiana and donations from the community, the foundation has a current market value exceeding $76 million.
"We've had a great start in 2007, with many excellent applications sent our way, and many great projects funded," said Brian Churchill, Chairman of the HCCF Grants Committee.
Future grant applications will be accepted after June 1, and must be hand delivered to the HCCF staff by 5 p.m. on Friday, July 13, or may be postmarked by Saturday, July 14, to be considered. The applications will be available after May 1 from the Web at hccfindiana.org or contact the foundation staff for a printed copy. All not-for-profit agencies serving Harrison County are invited to apply.
All agency representatives intending to apply in the next grant cycle are encouraged to attend a grant application workshop which will be held May 10 at 7 p.m. in the HCCF Conference Room, 1523 Foundation Way, Corydon.
