An anonymous donor has recently created a new charitable endowment fund at the Harrison County Community Foundation. The purpose of the Many Voices-One Community Fund is to promote tolerance, integration, acculturation and appreciation of diversity in Harrison County.

“The idea is to celebrate a variety of cultures in Harrison County,” said the donor. “We want to insure the inclusion of all people in the life of our community, encouraging many different voices to communicate in harmony with each other.”

The Many Voices-One Community Fund will provide support for:

1. English as a Second Language classes for children and adults, both outside and within Harrison County public or private school systems; to augment, not replace, funding from government sources including school corporations.

2. Educational (print or multimedia) material in the public library, public or private school libraries, or in community centers that promote respect for an interest in ethnic and cultural diversity and peaceful resolution of conflict.

3. Education in non-English languages, especially for people who teach and work with children and adults who speak these languages.

4. Performances, exhibits, lectures and other presentations that bring diverse points of view to Harrison County.

Recipients of the grants from the fund shall affirm the value and dignity of all people, regardless of their beliefs, race, ethnicity, geographic origin, age, marital status, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, and economic or social status.

The Harrison County Community Foundation provided a matching gift to create this fund, and any additional donation is eligible for a dollar-for-dollar match, up to $25,000 per household.  Anyone who wishes to make a donation to the Many Voices-One Community Fund may contact the HCCF staff at 738-6668 or mail donations to the Foundation, P.O. Box 279, Corydon, IN 47112. Checks should be made payable to Harrison County Community Foundation with the name of the fund in the memo line.
