The Harrison County Community Foundation will celebrate the 2006 National Library Week April 1 through 8 with a unique fund-raising opportunity for school libraries.
Most schools are participating in a campaign during National Library Week to raise the funds to create an endowment. During this campaign, the HCCF Board of Directors has offered a double match to monies gifted into these funds between April 1 and 13. School libraries that raise $5,000 during this campaign will receive $10,000 from the Foundation, for a total endowment of $15,000. Only the first $5,000 raised is eligible for the double match, but the Foundation will offer the traditional dollar-for-dollar match to any amount obtained over $5,000.
"This is a terrific opportunity for our school libraries to look at their financial future," said Lance Richards, Morgan Elementary School Principal.
Dale Watson, chairman of the HCCF Endowment Committee said, "Through scholarships and grants, our board continues to support education opportunities for students all over the county. We are very proud to be able to offer this opportunity to our librarians."
First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is an observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries across the country each April. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of the nation¹s libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support. All types of libraries, school, public, academic and special, participate.
"The people in the Heth-Washington community have always been tremendous supporters of the school. The Library Endowment Fund is a great way to give back to the school for many generations to come," said Teresa Eschbacher, librarian at Heth-Washington Elementary.
Those interested in contributing to any of these endowment funds may contact their school of choice. Donations can also be mailed to the Harrison County Community Foundation at P.O. Box 279, Corydon, IN 47112. Place the name of the school endowment in the memo line.
