For nearly 10 years, the Harrison County Community Foundation has been growing at an astonishing rate, with credit given to charitable citizens and especially Caesars Indiana. In that same 10 years, the Foundation staff has been in four different offices, relocating as space needs increased. Now the Foundation will build a permanent headquarters near the YMCA in Corydon.
The 5,000-square-foot facility was designed by Michell Timperman Ritz Architects of New Albany, and James L. Shireman Inc. of Corydon is the construction firm. Clearing the one-acre site overlooking Gov.
Frank O’Bannon Park began last week and the permitting process is almost complete.
Occupancy of the $900,000 facility should occur by the end of the year.
Approximately half of the facility will be used as a conference room and the balance dedicated to staff spaces. The conference room will have a kitchenette and accommodate up to 70 attendees in a theater seating arrangement.
The staff area has an extra office space in the design and more offices can be easily added in the years ahead if necessary.
“We began talking about a building almost two years ago,” said Charlie Lynch, chairman of the building committee.
“After we settled on the location, there were many discussions about cost and design.
“We wanted a building the community would be proud of but with a reasonable price tag. I think we have both.”
