"Music, arts and literature have been important in our lives and we think they are important to the future of Harrison County. We hope this fund will encourage public support for this essential element of the community. We can imagine people donating to commemorate band victories or a child's first recital or to honor local artists." An anonymous donor made these comments upon establishing the Classical and Fine Arts Fund of Harrison County at the Harrison County Community Foundation (HCCF).
The donor added, "The fund is broadly defined and the Foundation can use it imaginatively. If it grows, which doubling from the Foundation will certainly help, then everyone can look forward to more concerts, art shows and literary events."
The purpose of the fund is to encourage the creation, appreciation and availability of classical arts and literature in Harrison County. The fund will provide:
Support for public performances or exhibits in Harrison County;
Support for public lectures, classes, discussion or study in Harrison County of the arts;
Purchase of the work of artists living in Harrison County for display in public buildings;
Purchase of fine art in digital media, digital connections, or books and magazine subscriptions for the public library; and
Support for public broadcasts reaching Harrison County of classical music, theater, or education about classical music or literature.
"We at the Foundation have a great interest in promoting the arts in Harrison County. We are so pleased with the creation of this fund," said Maryland Austin, Endowment Committee chairperson.
HCCF provided a matching gift to create this fund and any additional donation is eligible for a dollar for dollar match, up to $25,000. To make a donation to the Classical and Fine Arts Fund of Harrison County, contact the HCCF staff at 738-6668 or mail donations to the Foundation, P.O. Box 279 Corydon, IN 47112.
