The Harrison County Community Foundation has awarded $171,675 to various projects and agencies supporting Harrison County. Successful recipients are:

Boy Scout Troop 25: $1,800 in matching funds to purchase tents

Community Foundation of Southern Indiana: $10,000 to provide grantmaking for the Harrison County Youth Philanthropy Council

Evans Landing Historical Foundation: $2,155 for building repairs to the historic church

Gethsemane Lutheran Church: $552 for historic church roof replacement

Habitat for Humanity of Harrison County: $10,000 toward construction costs of Habitat's third home here

Harrison County Lifelong Learning: $17,775 to purchase furniture and program equipment

Harrison County Community Services: $10,000 to purchase technology equipment

Harrison County Community Services: $1,000 for matching funds required to obtain a Juvenile Accountability Block Grant

Harrison County Historical Society: $2,150 in matching funds to restore historical markers in Harrison County

Harrison County Hospital: $6,265 to purchase an emergency generator

Harrison Education and Literacy Program (HELP): $16,760 to support the Freedom 101 jail program

Hayswood Theatre: $3,500 to purchase production royalties

Heth-Washington Elementary School: $17,742 to purchase books for the Accelerated Reading Program

Indiana University Southeast: $10,000 to subsidize Ogle Center productions

Junior Achievement: $10,000 to provide economic and financial literacy training for Harrison County students

Lanesville Community School Corp.: $10,000 to purchase construction materials to build a greenhouse

Lanesville Community School Corp.: $6,850 to purchase field trip tickets and books for the Medieval Times program

Leadership Harrison County: $3,405 to provide servant leadership training for Harrison County youth

LifeSpring: $1,500 to purchase equipment

Louisville Science Center: $10,000 to provide educational programs to Harrison County students

New Middletown Elementary School: $2,593 to purchase choral risers

North Harrison Elementary School: $1,000 to provide matching funds to bring a sculptor to North Harrison Elementary School

St. John's Lutheran School: $10,000 in matching funds to purchase technology equipment

Stage One: $2,743 to provide tickets for Harrison County students

Town of Lanesville: $3,885 to purchase laptop computers for the police department

The Community Foundation has provided more than $8 million to support not-for-profit projects and scholarships since October 1997. An agreement made by the Harrison County Commissioners created the Foundation with an initial contribution of $5 million from Caesars Indiana. With additional contributions from Caesars and donations from the community, the Foundation has a current market value of more than $38 million.

Future grant applications will be accepted after Dec. 1, 2004, and must be postmarked or delivered to the HCCF Office by 5 p.m. Jan. 15, 2005, to be considered. The applications will be available after Nov. 1 from the Web at www.hccfindiana.org or contact the Foundation staff for a printed copy. All not-for-profit agencies serving Harrison County are invited to apply.

A two-hour grant application workshop will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 4 p.m. in the Harrison Center Conference Room in downtown Corydon. Any agency representatives planning to attend the workshop should RSVP by calling the Foundation office at 738-6668 or e-mail jtimberlake@hccfindiana.org
