Family Health Center Supported by Endowment

The Harrison-Crawford Medical Society and Harrison County Hospital have recently established a permanent endowment at the Harrison County Community Foundation to support the Family Health Center of Harrison County. The Family Health Center of Harrison County Fund is to provide support to the Center with priority given to patient services.
The Family Health Center of Harrison County opened in December 2006 to serve uninsured and low-income patients. Since that time, 51 individual Harrison County patients have been seen for a total of 127 office visits. The health center is staffed with volunteer physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses and receptionists who see patients at the clinic, located at the Maternal & Child Health building off S.R. 62 west of Corydon. Harrison County Hospital donates lab work and diagnostics and ancillary services to the patients of the health center. Medications are provided on a sliding-scale fee for those prescriptions that are not on the discount drug store’s formularies. The Family Health Center of Harrison County has received funding and community health center status from the Indiana Dept. of Health and will soon increase the clinic hours to 20 hours a week and establish a more permanent location.
“Setting up the endowment for the health center will assure access to health care for years to come,” said Linda Codey, executive director of the Family Health Center of Clark County who administers the program in Harrison County. “We want to thank the hospital, the medical society and the Foundation for sharing and supporting our vision of health care for all.”
The Harrison County Community Foundation provided a matching gift to create this fund, and any additional donation is eligible for a dollar-for-dollar match, up to $25,000 per household per year. Checks should be made out to Harrison County Community Foundation with the name of the fund in the memo line.
