HCCF Announces 2008 Scholarship Distribution
The Corydon Democrat
Wednesday, Feburary 27, 2008
The Harrison County Community Foundation has been awarding scholarships to Harrison County high school graduating seniors since the Founders Scholarship program was established in 1998.
Since that time, HCCF has provided more than $2.3 million in scholarships to graduating seniors of Harrison County high schools through these scholarship programs.
Last year, HCCF introduced the new “Building Our Future” Scholarship program to the Class of 2007. These scholarships will provide each year up to 10 $5,000 renewable scholarships for a total value of $20,000 each.
Harrison County residents who are home-schooled, attend a private school or outside public school are also eligible for the “Building Our Future” scholarship program. They must apply for the scholarships through the closest Harrison County high school district or the district in which they reside.
The original “Founders” scholarships are one time, non-renewable individual scholarships. No less than $1,000 may be awarded and 10 percent of the total school award must be awarded as vocational scholarships.
Each high school receives a share of these funds based on the number of seniors enrolled in the current senior class. Students apply through their high school counselor’s office, and recipients will be recommended by designated high school selection committees.
Awards to the Class of 2008 are as follows:
Corydon Central High School — Building Our Future Scholarships, 4; Founders Scholarships, $123,000; Lanesville Junior-Senior High School — Building Our Future Scholarships, 2; Founders Scholarships, $38,000; North Harrison High School — Building Our Future Scholarships, 3; Founders Scholarships, $98,000; South Central Junior-Senior High School — Building Our Future Scholarships, 1; Founders Scholarships, $41,000.
