In 2006, the Harrison County Community Foundation school library endowment campaign raised $91,398 during the first two weeks of April. With the Foundation double-matching the first $5,000 to each of Harrison County’s 15 school library funds, the total amount establishing these endowments was $257,797. The purpose of the endowments is to provide support to the libraries to purchase books, supplie, or any other related costs. National Library Week is April 15 through 21. HCCF will continue to match contributions to any of these 15 endowment funds.

“These 15 charitable funds provide a permanent source of income for all of our school libraries,” said Chris Byrd, chairman of the HCCF Scholarship and Endowment Committee. “We hope that, in observance of National Library Week 2007, to match even more contributions to these charitable funds.”

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is an observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries across the country each April. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of the nation’s libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support. All types of libraries — school, public, academic and special — participate.

Anyone who wishes to make a contribution to a school library endowment may contact the HCCF at 738-6668. Checks should be made out to the Harrison County Community Foundation with the name of the fund in the memo line and can be mailed to P.O. Box 279 in Corydon.
