The Corydon Democrat

The Harrison County Community Foundation Board of Directors has approved $300,000
to be distributed among the four Harrison County high schools for scholarships
to graduating seniors this year.
Since the first announcement in 1998, the Foundation has now provided $1.14
million for local high school scholarships.
The amounts provided to each school scholarship program were based on the reported
number of seniors enrolled as of Jan. 16, 2004. The awards are: Lanesville,
$34,361; South Central, $34,361; North Harrison, $110,352; and Corydon Central,
$120,925.
The Foundation requires at least 10 percent of each school¹s total amount
be distributed to students entering a certified vocational training program.
A new twist imposed by the Foundation board is the minimum that will be awarded
to any recipient: $1,000.
Individual school¹s scholarship selection programs determine the recipients
and amounts awarded. Students who desire to compete for these funds should contact
their high school counselor.
"The Foundation board continues to support our seniors by providing these
scholarship funds," said Foundation Grants Committee Chair Carl Uesseler.
"We¹re very happy to again increase the total amount available."
Graduating seniors are also reminded of scholarship programs established by
the Foundation that are reserved for Harrison County residents planning to attend
Indiana University Southeast, Bellarmine University, Ivy Tech State College,
Spalding University and the University of Louisville.
"More of our residents are taking advantage of our matched contribution
program every year and creating new scholarship funds," added Foundation
executive director Steve Gilliland. "With the stock market showing signs
of recovery and up to $25,000 available for a match, this is a great time to
start a scholarship fund."
