Jump Start Preschool, the newest program at Harrison County Community Foundation, focuses on early childhood development initiatives and create a preschool network in Harrison County.

Jump Start’s mission is to increase the kindergarten readiness of at-risk Harrison County children. Local public, faith-based and private providers have agreed to participate in the Jump Start program.

Any family interested in participating in this free preschool program must meet certain eligibility requirements. Each child/family planning to use a private or faith-based provider must begin by enrolling at Harrison County Community Services for income eligibility verification. HCCS’s phone number is 812-738-8143. Eligible children must meet the same income requirements for the Free or Reduced Lunch program as established and changed from time to time by the state of Indiana. No exceptions will be authorized. Current guidelines are available online at www.doe.in.gov.

Participating children must be of an age that they will be eligible to enroll in public kindergarten in the next school year and have legal residency in Harrison County. In the case of joint custody, the address of the parent with custody during the normal work week will be used to determine eligibility.

Jump Start is considered a “full-day experience” with a minimum of five hours of educational learning provided.

Transportation for this program is currently only provided at the South Harrison Community School Corp. locations.

For more details regarding transportation, talk with your specific provider.
